INTRODUCTION

Michael and Debbie Owen welcome you to their home situated within Dartmoor National Park.

We aim to provide the highest standards and to exceed our guests expectations and hope your stay and experience whilst with us will be an enjoyable one.

Mitchelcroft has evolved over the 22 years we have lived here and has lovingly been designed and built by us into a comfortable and eclectic home.  It is surrounded by 5 acres of meadow and pasture and wildlife is one of the main features at its core.  We also strive to be as economical with natural resources as possible.  Mitchelcroft  is a non-smoking establishment.

Because Mitchelcroft is all on ground level we are able to accommodate people with limited mobility although unfortunately we are not fully wheelchair accessible.  We welcome a phone call or email to discuss any mobility issues with us beforehand.

We are located on a quiet lane just outside the small hamlet of Scorriton (sometimes spelt Scoriton). Due to its size and position, Scorriton has very limited public transport. However, we do have a very good local Inn called The Tradesmans Arms where you can eat very well every lunchtime and evening.  This is approximately 5 minutes walk from our home in the centre of the village.

Regretfully we are unable to accommodate children under 12.

We are also unable to take dogs at the property.

UPON ARRIVAL

The lane from Buckfastliegh to Scorriton is fairly narrow and winding although Mitchelcroft is only 7 minutes by car from the main A38 so all destinations are easily accessible.

We have off-road gated gravel parking at the side of the house.

The parking area has night time lighting to assist you. Please note- All cars parked on the property are left at the owners risk.

Access to the house is at the front of the property which has one shallow step up with a hand rail to one side.  The entrance way has wooden decking. This may be a little slippery when wet.

Assistance with luggage is readily available where necessary.

PUBLIC AREAS

The Check-in process is usually carried out in the guest lounge where you will be asked to fill in our guest card. Please see C-19 page.

There is one shallow step down to the Dining Room and Guest Bedroom areas.

All flooring  in the public areas is Sisal carpet, (apart from the Dining Room which is natural wood), and all areas are bright and well lit.

The Guest Lounge is available to you to sit and relax. It has bookcases filled with a wealth of reading material, together with local magazines of the area, maps and guide books.  On colder days there is an open fire which we light for you.  There is also a large flat screen T.V. with an assortment of DVD’s .  There are two two-seater sofas and one other easy chair, together with a coffee table. There are also double doors opening onto the front veranda. Please see c-19 page

Breakfast is taken in the Dining Room, which have seperate tables, a side table and Larder Cupboard, and wood flooring. This area has underfloor heating. On warm summer mornings we can open up the doors, which allows you to  feel as though you are sitting outside. There is a decked area outside the dining room doors with far-reaching views to the village of Holne. Please see C-19 page.

Breakfast is a mixture of buffet and table service.

We are happy to cater for various dietary needs but would appreciate knowing about these prior to your arrival.

As this is a modern property, we have a legally compliant fire alarm system; but please inform us of any hearing difficulties so we can arrange for special alarm procedures to be carried out.

BEDROOMS

All bedrooms are on the ground floor, have double doors opening directly onto your own personal decked area, and bottom-opening ventilation windows or opening widows at normal level.  There are wooden steps down to all decked sitting areas without handrails, but again we are always on hand to help.

There are flat screen T.Vs, hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, wardrobes, drawers in each room.

Not all bedding is hypoallergenic (please let us know if you have preferences). Duvets are provided in every room; however, if you would prefer sheets and blankets this can be arranged if mentioned prior to arrival.

ENVIRONMENT

We feel very passionate that we don’t take more than necessary from our environment.  Below we have noted some of the actions we have taken to lessen our impact.

  • All food is composted, fed to the birds (toast and crusts) or sent via our green bag to be composted with our local council.
  • We recycle 90% of our waste.
  • Each radiator in the house is on a timer.
  • All lamps are on timers and have low energy bulbs.
  • All lighting in guest bedrooms is low energy.
  • We have plastic waste bins in the guest rooms that can be washed so we have lessened our use of plastic bags.
  • Our powerful showers are Eco shower heads rather than electronic power showers.
  • Our suppliers are local and come from a radius of 15 miles.
  • We actively buy our produce where possible without unnecessary packaging.
  • We are always looking for innovative ways to cut our waste and include it in our yearly assessment.

CHILDREN AND PETS

We are unable to accommodate children under 12.  Young people over 12 are requested to have a separate room from their parents.

As we have our own pets at Mitchelcroft we are unable to accept dogs.

BEDROOMS

We have three letting rooms-  these can be double or twin and all have modern, contemporary bathrooms with toilet, handbasins, shower and or bath, double magnifying mirrors and large ladder-style heated towel rails.  The bathrooms have either underfloor heating or are heated with radiator and/or towel rails.  All floors within the bathrooms have specific non-slip  bathroom flooring.  The shower trays are generous. There are bath mats in each bathroom should you need one.  Large bath sheets and hand towels , together with cotton buds (non plastic) and cotton pads, are available in each bathroom.

OUTSIDE AREA

Mitchelcroft has a large garden but all of the guest bedrooms, at some point, overlook the garden. We therefore ask that you respect other guests privacy and enjoy the garden and view from your private deck or delegated garden area.
